Ting iPhone Guide: Which iPhones Does Ting Work With? (2015)
A frequent question that we get from readers of our Ting review, is: "What iPhones does Ting work with?" We did some research on Ting’s website, talked to a few members of Ting support, and did some tests of our own to find out.
Ting works with all of the following iPhones:
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 5C
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 4
If you want to use Ting with any of the above phones, you can either:
- Buy an iPhone directly from Ting (note that Ting only sells the iPhone 4S and newer)
- Buy a Sprint-branded iPhone used from EBay/Glyde. Note that if you’re buying a used iPhone from Ebay, make sure you don’t purchase an iPhone that’s classified as having a “bad ESN”. Any phone with a bad ESN won’t work with Ting, since it will fail Sprint’s financial eligibility check.
- Bring your Sprint iPhone over to Ting. If your current iPhone is a Sprint-branded iPhone that you’ve had for more than a year, you can bring it over to Ting.
- Buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple. Any iPhone you purchase unlocked from Apple will work with Ting.

Ting GSM Network
The above applies only to Ting’s CDMA network (which uses Verizon/Sprint for cell service). If you’d like to use Ting’s GSM network, read on.
Note: Most people use Ting for the CDMA network (above). Unless you came here specifically looking for Ting’s GSM iPhone compatibilities, I would recommend skipping this section.
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 5C
- iPhone 5
If you want to use Ting’s GSM network with any of the above phones, you can either:
- Bring your iPhone from AT&T. Any AT&T iPhone will work on the Ting GSM network. However, you first have to unlock your AT&T iPhone (you can do that for free, here)
- Bring your iPhone from T-Mobile. Any T-Mobile iPhone will work on the Ting GSM network. You don’t need to unlock it. Ting’s current GSM network is T-Mobile’s network, so if you’re coming over from T-Mobile, you’ll have the exact same coverage as before.
- Bring your iPhone from Verizon. You can bring the iPhone 5S, 5C, 6, and 6 Plus from Verizon (you can also bring the iPhone 5 from Verizon, but you won’t get any LTE coverage). Your device will be automatically unlocked—no need to contact Verizon.
- Bring your iPhone from Sprint. If you bought you iPhone after February 2015, you can bring it over to the Ting GSM network, otherwise just bring your Sprint iPhone to Ting’s CDMA network (see the top of this page).
- Buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple. Any iPhone you purchase unlocked from Apple will work with Ting.
- Buy a used iPhone from Ebay/Glyde. (Make sure you first check out it’s compatibility using Ting’s IMEI tool though, because Ting's GSM network will NOT work with some models of iPhones).
If you don't have access to the iPhone's IMEI number, ask the seller what the model number of the phone is. Ting's GSM network only works with the following iPhone model numbers:
- A1522
- A1549
- A1533
- A1532
- A1428
- A1203
